Customer Case Study
“MavenWire has been involved, informative, and has stepped up to help with this project. They did an outstanding job with the information provided and went out of their way for us.”
As part of an enterprise-wide commitment to achieving efficiencies and saving money, Clopay needed to replace its homegrown transportation management system (TMS) with a hosted OTM implementation.
Headquartered in Mason, OH, Clopay is North America’s leading residential garage door manufacturer and a preferred supplier of commercial overhead sectional garage doors and coiling steel doors. The company has two manufacturing plants and 49 distribution centers throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Clopay’s TMS ran on two desktop computers, experiencing numerous application changes and missing opportunities streamlined and automated platforms offer. In search of a solution fully supported by a single vendor, Clopay selected Oracle Transportation Management (OTM).
Clopay is known for its ability to make last-minute changes up until delivery, yet it struggled to seamlessly manage its transportation component. “Our homemade system was unsupported for several years, and did not allow for flexibility or changes,” said Logistics Manager Darrin Pluta.
- As a result of this challenge, Clopay also faced the following obstacles:
- Inability to update business planning processes to gain efficiencies.
- Inefficient tractor-trailer loading, yard management, and dock door usage.
- Existing legacy transportation management approach didn’t support strategies like load consolidation and efficient routing.
As part of an enterprise-wide initiative to clean up its master data and gain better visibility over manufacturing processes, inventory, and shipments, Clopay chose OTM as the solution, bringing in MavenWire for hosting the application, implementation and integration of the OTM to its already established Oracle EBS, and support.
Clopay was pleased its new TMS would integrate well with other Oracle Applications it used in other aspects of the business. “We were already using Oracle solutions on a broader scale,” said Pluta. “OTM gave us a viable tool for managing our transportation component and allowed us to update and improve our tracking and scheduling.”
Clopay, with the help of MavenWire, implemented OTM as part of a larger, overall supply chain planning strategy to streamline its entire operation and gain efficiencies previously out of reach. The manufacturer benefitted from MavenWire’s OTM and broader supply chain business process expertise and expedience when rolling out the first phase of the project.
Pluta said OTM allows Clopay to more efficiently incorporate orders. “It allows us to view and schedule orders and tender loads,” said Pluta, who expects the new TMS to provide even further benefits. “Future benefits will be tied to an integrated business processes initiative, which hasn’t been completed yet. We’ve yet to unleash our TMS’s full power.” OTM is on track to become an integral part of their supply chain IT operation, which also includes Oracle’s Demantra, ASCP, GOP, and Configurator applications among others.
As Clopay further leverages its OTM investment, Pluta said the company will continue to rely on MavenWire as a trusted partner.
